A TCU-born theater group is introducing local frogs to the off-Broadway
pond — and
vice versa. It wasn’t much of a stretch, when a small
group of TCU drama students decided to stage a play on the Horned
Frog campus seven years ago, for them to pick the name Amphibian Stage Productions for the new theatrical entity they’d formed.

"Cowtown fares better this year"

Cowtown fared better than last year in the annual Dallas-Fort Worth
Theater Critics Forum awards, which honor outstanding productions,
performances and design for the 2005-06 season (shows that opened between
Sept. 1, 2005, and Aug. 31, 2006).
Three Fort Worth groups took honors; one each to Jubilee Theatre
and Circle Theatre, and two for Amphibian Stage

Companies stretch with bold lineups

Zoologically speaking, amphibians and butterflies don't mix — unless it's a frog munching down on the winged insect. But in theater terms, it's a good week for all creatures.
Two of Fort Worth's independent groups have announced their 2006 seasons: Amphibian StageProductions, which saw tremendous growth in 2005; and the Butterfly Connection, which is still emerging from its chrysalis.
Perhaps the butts-in-seats story of the year belongs to Amphibian. The group mounted two solid main-stage shows, A Buyer's Market and Matt & Ben. But what's amazing is that it consistently drew nice crowds to a type of performance that doesn't often accomplish that task: staged readings.
